What is a Constitution?

Your Club's Constitution is its official governing document. This is how we ensure all our Clubs and Societies are run democratically. It should be read in full by incoming executives, then referenced for guidance as needed. The Secretary must provide a copy of the current Constitution to Club members upon their request.

What is a Model Constitution?

The Model Constitution fully details the USU’s minimum requirements for registered clubs in USU’s Clubs Program. Any additions to a Club or Society’s constitution that fall outside the Model Constitution are subject to approval by Clubs Office, the Clubs Committee, and/or the USU Board. The Clubs Program may update the Model Constitution as required. When this occurs clubs and societies must update their Constitution with the communicated mandatory amendments at their next eligible meeting (GM or AGM) following the usual Amendments to the Constitution process.

As detailed in the Model Constitution, at a minimum your constitution should detail the Club's:

• Official name.
• Official aims and activities.
• Classes and costs of membership.
• Executive team structure, and individual Executive duties and responsibilities.
• Required frequency for holding meetings.
• Meeting requirements and minimum agenda.
• AGM and Election Month.
• Election process.
• Financial Year End, and
• Alteration to the Constitution, Inactivity, and Dissolution clauses.
